Image retargeting software demo

This is the most incredible thing I've seen online in a while. Dynamic resizing of images based on what's "interesting" or "important". The video of the software in action will blow you away.

PS - I have nothing to add, but just wanted to share it.
PPS - I already linked to it in my sidebar to the right.

The perceived code behind it awakens special feelings I'm inclined to feel ashamed about, but the applications are mostly absurd.

If people don't want the picture they took on holiday, why take a camera at all? You and the Hoff could be having a barbecue in front of stock footage of the Taj Mahal, if you're going to start making changes.

It'll probably be very popular.

I believe the researcher pictures it as primarily being used for dynamic scaling of images for varied screen sizes. I don't think it was meant for home photo editing, but will probably make its way into Photoshop and The GIMP before very long.

You're right. This is very cool.

I hope it does make it to photoshop and the like ... there's so much about that that would be very practical for me as an amateur photographer.

Heh. A week after some equivalent software is released to the public, I predict we'll see a lot of edited images in the vein of "spot the removed object", including quite a few headless person items. Then the excitement will die down a little bit.
